4-H Share the Fun Talent Contest and Show will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Buchanan Theater on Main Street in Buchanan.
Youth ages 9-19 as of September 30, 2017 are invited to participate. You do not have to already be a 4-H member to participate in this contest. The contest is open to all youth and the afternoon performance will be open to the public.
Mandatory tryouts for all participants will be Tuesday, Jan. 31, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Buchanan Theater. This will give everyone the opportunity to practice their act on stage prior to the actual contest and show. Call the Botetourt Extension Office at 473-8260 to make an appointment for tryouts. Entries are due January 25to the Botetourt County Extension Office.
Everyone in the 4-H Share the Fun Talent Contest and Show will be judged and will receive a ribbon – Blue, Red, or White. Participants compete by age division (ages 9-11, 12-13 and 14-19) and by category. There are six competition categories: Vocal, Instrumental, Dance, Drama, Variety, or Combination. Vocal acts contain singing. Instrumental acts are totally instrumental presentations. Dance includes tap, ballet, jazz, acrobatic, folk and other routines. In the Drama category, participants perform in a skit or scene from a play. They may present a monologue by reading a poem or dramatic reading. Participants may perform a choral reading, a dramatic monologue, or a mime reading a play. The Variety category includes magic acts, puppetry, ventriloquism, juggling, stand-up comic, tumbling/gymnastics, impressionist, clowning and circus acts.
You may compete alone or with a friend – acts may contain up to four people. Everyone in the act must be in the same age division.
Winners in the 14-19 age division will have the opportunity to compete in the Virginia 4-H Talent Contest at Virginia Tech during State 4-H Congress on June. The overall winners in the Junior and Intermediate Divisions will win a full scholarship to 2017 Botetourt County 4-H Camp and the overall Senior winner will receive a full scholarship to 2017 Virginia 4-H Congress at Tech.
