The James River boys soccer team was eliminated from Region 2C play Monday with a 4-2 loss to Martinsville at the Smith River Complex.
“We came out strong and played very well the whole game,” said River coach Jared Whiting. “We got hit with a PK early that put us behind, but we fought back and tied the game twice. Was one of those frustrating games where we couldn’t seem to get a call in our favor, but these guys kept their heads and played strong to the final whistle.”
Tristan Flood and Jacob Hill scored the goals for River.
The loss followed a 5-1 win over Buckingham in the regional opener last Thursday in Buchanan. Flood and Brad Stephenson had two goals each while River Clonch had one. Jacob Wagner had two assists and Hill had one.
“These guys played some impressive soccer this year,” said Whiting. “We all hate that it is over but I feel very fortunate to have been able to work with a group of truly first class young men.”
