Mary Frances “Totsie” Shafer Thompson, 86, of Natural Bridge passed away Saturday May 21, 2022 at her home.
She was born August 28, 1935 in Buchanan, a daughter of the late George W. Shafer and Dolly S. Goodwin Shafer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, H. Edward McDaniel and John C. Thompson, Jr.; son, Harry Allen McDaniel, and his wife Rachel.
Mary was a member of the Natural Bridge Baptist Church, worked at Burlington Industries for 30 years, and worked in the dining room of the Natural Bridge Hotel.
Surviving are sons, Lewis McDaniel, Jay Thompson; four grandchildren, Jeremiah Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Stephanie Thompson, and Tanner McDaniel; great-grandson, Jericho Rutherford; brother, George W. Shafer, Sr.; sister, Janey Keylon, of West Virginia; nephews, George Shafer, Jr. and Stephen Shafer. Also surviving are some great friends and good people that she worked with.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26, Harrison Funeral Chapel, Lexington, with the Rev. Mason Jordan officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Buchanan. Friends gathered with the family for one hour prior to the service.
