McClung, RMMS 6th grader, wins Botetourt Spelling Bee

Botetourt’s individual Spelling Bee alternates
The individual Botetourt County Spelling Bee school champions
Ellie McClung (left) is Botetourt County’s 2018 Spelling Bee Champion and Jake Spangler is runner-up and alternate to the regional Spelling Bee in March.

Elliott “Ellie” McClung, a sixth grade student at Read Mountain Middle School, won the Botetourt County Public School Division Spelling Bee that was held Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Lord Botetourt High School.

Runner-up was Jake Spangler, a fifth grader from Colonial Elementary School.

The winning word was “incarcerated.” McClung will represent Botetourt County at the Roanoke Times Regional Spelling Bee in March.

The Botetourt school champions are:

Jacob Winfield, Breckinridge Elementary

Kelsey Firebaugh, Buchanan Elementary

Dalton Hall, Central Academy Middle School

Aaron Scher, Cloverdale Elementary

Jake Spangler, Colonial Elementary

Jadyn Miller, Eagle Rock Elementary

Jacob Malue, Greenfield Elementary

Ellie McClung, Read Mountain Middle School

Bryce Branscom, Troutville Elementary

 

School alternates are:

Ella Monaghan, Buchanan

Eli Johnson, CAMS

Jonathan Davis, Cloverdale
