Nelda Rhodes McDaniel, 88, of Troutville, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 following a long illness.
Nelda was born November 22, 1930 in Catawba and retired to Botetourt County. She was the daughter of the late William Edward and Dorothy D. Old Rhodes. Nelda was a homemaker and excellent cook. She was a 1948 graduate of Fincastle High School, and a member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard O. McDaniel; brothers and sister-in-law: Weldon and Dolores Rhodes, and Rodney Rhodes.
Nelda is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Patricia McDaniel, and Pamela and Wesley Hartman, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Whitney Hall, Andrew Hall, Ian Hall, Amanda (Nathan) May, and Tyler Hartman; great-grandchildren, Nick Smith, Avery Adams, Aislynn Adams, Tucker May and Brody May; sister and brother-in-law Mildred and Harold Wingate; and sister-in-law Millie Rhodes.

A celebration of Nelda’s life was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6 at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville with Pastor Aaron Mansfield officiating. Burial was in Mt. Union Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service beginning at noon.
