As of February 3, 2021, it is my pleasure to serve as editor of The Fincastle Herald, taking over for Daniel Tyson, who was editor of The Herald since September of 2020.
I was born and raised in Roanoke County, graduated from Northside High School, and, years later, earned my M.F.A. in Journalism from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Fla. My Master’s program taught me about the print media industry and the new media often used these days via social media platforms.
A little about me: My father’s love for sports influenced me to have the same passion. I’m also a big music fan. Phish, Weezer, and Deftones are three of my favorite bands. I enjoy going to live shows held outdoors (preferably in warm weather). I’ve collected/read comic books since I was a little boy. Some of my favorite characters include Superman, the X-Men, and Invincible. My time in the Orlando, Fla. area allowed me to discover the magic of Disney World—a place I never visited until I moved to Florida back in 2014.
When I returned to Virginia in 2018, I met then-Editor Aila Boyd in a chance encounter. Shortly after that, I began working at The Herald as a contributing writer. One year later, I became the newspaper’s layout artist. Now, I have the honor of taking over as the editor.
Since 1866, The Fincastle Herald provides Botetourt County with local news and features highlighting the community’s growth and longevity. I want to continue that tradition and look forward to learning more about the area, its leaders, and its progress.
