On Monday morning, Botetourt County citizens and others gathered in Fairview Cemetery in Buchanan to remember veterans of the Armed Forces who made unforgettable sacrifices defending the honor and freedom of the United States of America.
Tammy Fleming, American Legion Post 93 Commander, presented the service. Local musician David Austin provided special music for the event with trumpetist Charles LeFew and bagpipes from Bill and Keegan Price performing “Taps.”
The Memorial Day service featured two guest speakers. The first speaker, former District Commander Gene Malinowski, welcomed guests and spoke about what the day and service means to him and other veterans.
The second guest speaker, Congressman Ben Cline of Virginia’s Sixth District, followed Malinowski. Cline gave thanks for the individuals who fought for their country and spoke about what Memorial Day means to the United States.
Monday’s service previously scheduled Army veteran and author Bob VandeLinde to speak at the event. He was unable to attend due to a health issue.
