The Lord Botetourt tennis teams played William Byrd last Friday with mixed results. The girls took an 8-1 win over the Terriers at Hollins University while the boys dropped a close one, 5-4, in Vinton.
Botetourt number one Reagan Meade led the Cavaliers in their win. She lost the first set, 6-1, but rallied to win the next two sets, 6-2, 6-3.
“I am very proud of her perseverance,” said coach Sam Belcher.
Mali Ruppel started at number six for the first time in her tennis career and won in two sets, 6-1, 7-6.
“It was awesome to celebrate with her as she won her first ever seeded match,” said Belcher.
The boys got singles wins from Ridge Radtke at number one and Tyler McCarren at number three. Also winning for LB were the first doubles team of Radtke and Chase Dozier and third doubles of McCarren and Payten Arnold.
Both teams were scheduled to play William Fleming counterparts on Tuesday. On Thursday the boys will host Staunton River at Hollins with the girls taking on the Golden Eagles in Moneta, then on Friday the boys host Northside and the girls go there.
