Lord Botetourt sophomore Kaitlyn Mosdell has qualified for the state girls golf championship, scheduled for the Springfield Country Club in Springfield on October 22 and 23.
Mosdell qualified for the state by winning Monday’s “Zone Qualifier” at the Hidden Valley Country Club in Salem. Six girls competed and only the winner advanced, as 15 percent of the participants in a zone qualifier move on.
Kaitlyn trailed Salem’s Makena Witt by one stroke after 16 holes Monday. However, Mosdell birdied the 17th and Witt bogeyed the hole to give Mosdell the lead, and she held on for the win, edging Witt and Abby Hunter. Mosdell finished with 82 and other two girls shot 83.
This is Mosdell’s second trip to the state, as she also qualified as a freshman. The tournament includes girls from all VHSL classifications.
