This Saturday, as fog rises from the James River, church bells will toll at 10 a.m. to announce the opening of the Town of Buchanan’s 25th annual Mountain Magic In Fall Bluegrass, Antiques & Crafts Festival.
A celebration of the town’s revitalization activities, Mountain Magic in Fall showcases the town’s historic roots, businesses, building renovations, local and regional crafters, artists as well as some of the region’s finest bluegrass musicians.
Mountain Magic In Fall has grown to be the largest festivals in Botetourt County, attracting visitors from the Roanoke Valley as well as the Shenandoah Valley. Thousands of visitors will flock to downtown to explore the town’s historic Main Street as well as the Town Park where they will discover more than 100 vendor spaces filled with candles, knitted and crocheted items, wood crafts, furniture, glass, birdhouses, antiques, art, local made apple butter, pumpkins and more filling tables, easels and tents as the smells of sausage, country ham and barbeque fill the air.
The day’s activities also include a collection of Antique & Classic Autos and Tractors on display, the Friends of the Buchanan Library’s annual Book Sale, the Merchant Sidewalk Sale and a full day of live bluegrass performances sponsored by Bank of Botetourt as it celebrates its 125th anniversary.
Buchanan’s Special Events Committee, which helps organize the festival, encourages visitors to bring a lawn chair to sit and enjoy some bluegrass. This year’s festival features seven regional bands and performers including Haymaker Town Express, New Corner Grocery Gang, Blue Connection, Jason Harris & Friends, Virginia Carolina Band, Route 11 and Rebecca Bryant.
Take home more than memories this year with the purchase of a Mountain Magic in Fall Festival shirt. This year’s shirt brings back the popular LOVE logo with the festival’s trademark maple leaf. Short sleeve T-shirts, long sleeve T-shirts and sweatshirts will be available from the Special Events Committee booth at the Main Entrance Gate near the stage.
Visitors are requested to leave their pets at home during Mountain Magic In Fall Festival. The crowded events create an environment that is not conducive to four-legged friends. The safety of both visitors and their pets is important and organizers ask that all visitors adhere to this policy (Certified Service Dogs are allowed).
