Munters Group officially broke ground on its expansion at the Botetourt Center at Greenfield. Pictured here are members of Munters Group joining Del. Terry Austin, County Administrator Gary Larrowe, and Economic Development Project Manager Luke Campbell for a photo.

Munters, a global leader in climate control solutions, is taking the next step in expanding its facility in Daleville. A groundbreaking ceremony on July 9 marked a milestone in this initiative to meet growing demand for energy-efficient cooling of data centers.

Botetourt County Administrator Gary Larrowe added, “This investment and job creation is a big deal- not just for Munters, but for the county as a whole.”

The groundbreaking ceremony included participation from Munters Group leadership, local government officials, project team members and community partners in the ceremonial turning of the soil.

The expansion, which was first announced March 26, 2025, will significantly increase production capacity and pave the way for domestic manufacturing of chillers for the US market.

Chillers play a central role in delivering energy-efficient cooling solutions for hyperscale and colocation data centers. Currently, production of complete chilled water solutions for both liquid and air cooling are manufactured in Italy through the recently acquired company Geoclima. With the new state-of-the-art facility in Virginia, set to be completed in Q2 2026, Munters is strengthening its regional supply, increasing capacity, and reducing lead times.

“The growing demand for energy-efficient cooling drives us to continuously develop our technology. By adding chiller production to our facility in Virginia, we can meet the needs of the US market with even more advanced and sustainable solutions,” says Stefan Aspman, President of the Data Center Technologies business area.

The enlargement adds 200,000 square feet (18,580 m²) of production space to the adjacent lot of the current factory and includes a new test laboratory for chillers.

Munters is a global leader in energy-efficient air treatment and climate solutions. Using innovative technologies, Munters creates the perfect climate for customers in a wide range of industries. Munters has been defining the future of air treatment since 1955. Today, around 5,400 employees carry out manufacturing and sales in more than 30 countries. Munters Group AB reported annual net sales of more than SEK 15 billion in 2024 and is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm. For more information, please visit www.munters.com.
