Central Academy and Read Mountain Middle Schools were among 13 middle school wrestling teams that participated in the annual “Norse Invitational” tournament at Northside High School last Saturday. The tournament is the traditional end-of-the-season tournament for area middle school teams.
Glenvar Middle School won the tournament with 229 points, followed by Cave Spring with 203.5. Read Mountain tied host Northside for sixth place with 131 points and Central Academy was 10th with 50.
Read Mountain’s David Aldrich won the 175-pound class, finishing 12-0 on the season, and Blake Markham of the Stars took a second at 190. Thirds went to Cael Burton at 120 and Evan Grant at 152, and placing fourth were Camden Dudding at 70 pounds and Deacon Witt at 160.
For CAMS, Fredrick Murray took fourth in the 144-pound weight class. Bryson Spence and Easton Arnold also wrestled well, with Arnold scoring seven points and Spence six.
“Even though we started with forfeiting four weight classes, the Central Academy Patriots beat out William Byrd, Ben Franklin and Hidden Valley,” said coach Mike Hall.
