Patricia Ann Young Obenshain, 75, of Troutville, passed away peacefully Friday, December 20, 2024 after a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cary W. Obenshain; parents, Carl Ambler Young Sr. and Nadine James Young; and brother, David Ambler Young, Sr.

She is survived by three children, Christopher Obenshain, Kimberly Fickey (Chris), and Derek R. Obenshain (Samantha); grandchildren, Caleb Snyder, Riley Fickey, Silas Tuttle, and Tallulah Obenshain; sister, Pam Petty (Charlie); half-siblings, Carl Young, Jr. and Candy Gladden. Also, a special family friend, Katie McElveen that Patty considered her second daughter.

Patty was raised and lived her life in Botetourt County. She lovingly raised her three children then went on to care for many other children in her home. She always had a smile on her face, was incredibly patient, and was a natural caregiver. She was a devoted Christian and longtime member of Daleville Church of the Brethren and most recently New Life Christian Ministries in Roanoke. Her faith and steadfast love for her family defined her life.

She loved spending her time outdoors on the family farm, gardening, crocheting Afghans for her loved ones, spending quality time with her grandkids, family trips to the beach, and strolling on the boardwalk with her sister and brother-in-law in Virginia Beach. To know her was to love her and if you didn’t you truly missed out. She was a blessing to many, the heart of our family, an amazing kind, and beautiful soul, our Angel here on Earth who will be dearly missed.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kelly Gwathmey, and her team at VCU Medical, the amazing nurses and staff at Good Samaritan Hospice, and her special caregivers, Marcella, Donna, and Liz.

The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025 with memorial services at 2 p.m. in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the MCV Foundation in support of the VCU ALS and Neuromuscular Disorders Clinic, noting on the check in the memo in memory of Patricia Obenshain, and mailed to VCU Gifts and Records, Box 843042, Richmond, 23284-3042 http://www.support.vcu.edu/give/fund?fund=230475.
