CAUSEY, Evelyn M.
Evelyn M. Causey, 100, formerly of Lakeland, Fla., died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Richfield Recovery Center.
Evelyn was born in Macon, Ga., June 30, 1917 and moved to the Roanoke Valley about 10 years ago. She was the daughter of the late George C. and Lillie M. George Marshall.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl F. Causey, and is survived by her sons, Lawrence Causey of Troutville, and Daniel Causey of Snellville, Ga.
A memorial service honoring Evelyn’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, at Jane Morgan Harris Chapel at Richfield in Salem where the family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the service. HATCHER, Margaret R.
Margaret Reed Hatcher, 86 of Troutville, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
She was born November 28, 1931 to the late Prince and Elizabeth Reed. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Garland and son, Ron.
Survivors include sons, Jim and wife Brenda, and Jerry and wife Luanne; sisters, Shirley Witt, Rachel Ayers, Jean Shell, Juanita St.Clair, and Mary Jo (Jerry) Myers; brother, Bill (Lois) Reed; beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought much joy to her life.
Margaret faithfully served her Lord and Savior throughout her life as a member of Troutville-New Bethel Church of the Brethren. She served the Troutville community as a friend, counselor, and confidante during her 50-year career with Thriftway Market where she worked until suffering a stroke at age 84.
Margaret leaves behind extended family and many dear friends to cherish her memory and continue her legacy of serving others.
A celebration of Margaret’s life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21 at Troutville Church of the Brethren with Pastor Terry Johnson officiating. Burial was in Mill Creek Cemetery. WARD, Laura
Laura Ward, 58, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Laura was born in Roanoke and lived in Fincastle most of her life. She was the daughter of Amos H. Dunbar and Betty Brogan Huffman.
Laura was a school bus driver for Roanoke City Public Schools for 20 years, retiring in 2008. She enjoyed her family, loving on everybody’s kids, and was a good cook.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Steven P. Ward; father, Amos H. Dunbar; stepfather, Robert Huffman; mother-in-law, Billie Ward; and a brother-in-law, Wendell Ward.
She is survived by her son, Michael W. Ward (fiancée Nicole) of Roanoke; her daughter, Ashliegh Ward (Maurice) of Roanoke; her grandchildren: Devin Ward, DeAndre Heighter, Steven Hickman, Teyshaun Hickman, Jordan Hickman, Darius Hickman, and Branyal Saunders; her mother, Betty Brogan Huffman of Roanoke; brothers and sister-in-law Charles and Tammy Dunbar of Buchanan, Ricky Dunbar of Galax; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and James Mills of Roanoke; sisters-in-law Beryl (Billy) Word and Myra Ward, both of Roanoke; brother-in-law, Rodney Ward of Roanoke; beloved family pet, Daisy; special friend of the family, Alicia Campbell; and many loving family and friends.
A home-going service honoring Laura’s life will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 25 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville with the Rev. Montie Brown Sr. officiating. Burial will be in First Baptist Church of Fincastle Cemetery. WEST, Diane
Diane West, 66-year-old native of Eagle Rock, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018. Diane had been living in Richmond Hill, Ga. the past three years, lived in Ft. Stewart, Ga. for two years prior to that, and had lived in Roanoke and Eagle Rock. Diane was born to Lama West and Mary West on August 18, 1951 in Eagle Rock. Both parents preceded her in death. Diane had two brothers who preceded her in death, Robert West and Gary West. Diane graduated from James River High School. She worked for the US Postal Service before becoming disabled and had served her country in the US Army.
Diane has one son: Christopher B. Williams (Sharon); five grandchildren, Heather, Colton, Hunter, Sarah, and Hope; four great-grandchildren, Jazelle, Jahmauri, Jackson, and Carson. Diane is survived by her sister, Theresa Moore (Ron); nephew, Rodney Moore (Annie), and their children, Sarah and Hunter; and niece, Rhonda Moore.
Diane had one sister-in-law, Donna West (Robert’s wife). Diane is survived by her nephew, Robert West Jr. (Heather) and their two children, Emma and Sydney; niece, Christy Grenier (Chris) and their three children, Hannah, Tyler, and Alaina.
A graveside service will be held on May12 at 11 a.m. at the Eagle Rock Cemetery. Pastor Teddy Bias will conduct the service.
