Fred Barry Burkholder, 73, of Buchanan, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John, Jr. and Ruby Burkholder.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dollie Austin Burkholder; step-daughter, Dawn Fields of Buena Vista; step-son, Chad Fields of Buchanan; step-grandchildren, Andrew Fields and Taylor Early; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Luther and Fran K. Burkholder of Daleville; Phillip Dale and Pamela W. Burkholder of Vinton; nieces, Jessica Sawyer and Michelle Clayton; and nephew, John Burkholder.

GOAD, Steve A.
Steve Allen Goad, 62, of Buchanan, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Steve was born in Roanoke March 20, 1955, a son of the late Maynard Bryan and Virginia Ruth Francisco Goad, and raised in Botetourt. He lived in Buchanan the last six years. He had been employed with R.R. Donnelly and served in The United States Navy. He enjoyed camping, hiking, making walking sticks, golfing, and collecting antiques.
Steve is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Elisha and Meredith Goad of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughters and son-in-law, Suzanne and Neal Grishaw and Breanna Goad, all of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Cooper and Campbell Goad, Donovon Grishaw, and Gavin Padgett; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bryan and Carolyn Goad of Wintersville, Ohio, Glenn and Wanda Goad of Bristol, Va., and Mike and Janet Goad of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters and brother-in-law Mona and Kenneth Martin of Gladstone, Va., and Cissy Dillon of Lynchburg.
Funeral services honoring Steve’s life were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 19 at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville with the Rev. John Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Mt. Union Cemetery. NEWCOMB, Lewis D.
Lewis Dewitt “Hook” Newcomb, 75, of Buchanan, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores McAllister Newcomb; parents, Robert Dewitt and Ethel Hawkins Newcomb; brother, George Cox; and sister, Jean Harper.
Hook is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Darryl Newcomb, Rob and Sandy Newcomb, and Dana and Kristine Newcomb, all of Buchanan; Jamie and Missy Henry of Bedford; grandchildren, Jeremy, Matthew, Mallory, Tyler, Andrew, Little Jamie, and Skylar; great-granddaughter, Gabriella; brothers and sisters, Edna Cox of Buena Vista, Pete Newcomb and Susie Newcomb of Buchanan, and Dovie Ramsey of Natural Bridge Station.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 21 in Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Tabor officiating. GRIMES, Patricia A.G.
Patricia Alice Geiger Grimes, 84, of Troutville, our precious mom, has lost her battle with cancer on August 20, 2017. She will be missed by her family, friends and many others who knew her.
Pat worked for Lord Botetout High School, and drove a school bus for special needs children for many years. She attended Daleville Baptist Church where she dedicated her time with helping others and served her congregation wherever God called her to be. Her minister, Wes Belcher, was such an inspiration in her life and the work she did for him and with him. Thanks to her many friends who helped take care of her with visits, prayers and cards. Special thanks to Faye and Lucy for giving her the encouragement and support during this difficult time. Thanks to Linda for the help and support you gave to Greg and his mother.
Pat’s greatest joy was serving God and her church. She loved her children and her grandchildren with all her heart. She loved spending time working in her yard and feeding the birds that inhabited her property.
Pat leaves behind her beloved son, Greg, who cared for her selflessly for the last 8 months. She also leaves behind her daughter, Debby Talley; and two granddaughters, Jamie and Heather Talley, all of Texas. She leaves behind her brother, Ron Geiger; and niece and nephew, Crystal Suggs and Jeff Geiger.
Pat was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy; daughter, Patti Lee; and her parents, Harry and Alice Geiger.

Susan Corbett Vaughan of Troutville left for Heaven on Sunday, August 20, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arlie and Margaret Corbett; sister-in-law, Annette Corbett; nephew, Shawn Corbett; and in-laws, Onice and Margaret Vaughan.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Spurgeon; son, Jeremy and wife, Dawn; grandson, Glenn; brothers, Charles Corbett (Sharon) and Andy Corbett (Hope); sister, Barbara Harold (Bob); sisters-in-law, Betty Fields (Jesse) and Sybil Witt; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
Special thanks go to Sandie and Jill of Amedisys Hospice Care for their tender care.
Susan taught for 31 years in Botetourt County Schools. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the Botetourt Retired Educators. Susan was a member of First Baptist Church, Roanoke, where she greatly enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved reading, word games and spending time with family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, at Oakey’s East Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at noon on Friday, August 25, at Faith Chapel, First Baptist Church. Interment will be private at Hillcrest Cemetery in Blue Ridge.
