BROUGHMAN, Earl
Earl “Frankie” Broughman, 83, of Botetourt, died Monday, March 20, 2017 at Carrington Place.
Frankie was born in Botetourt County April 3, 1934 and lived in the area all of his life. He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Cora Mary Belle Stanley Broughman. Frankie was a farmer as a boy and young man and did security work later in life. He loved to hunt, especially turkeys and enjoyed taking his family to the lake.
In addition to his parents, Frankie was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Virgie M. McFalls Broughman, and is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Jim Shorten of Chesterfield, Margaret and Fred Gibson of Shawsville, and June and Glen Hampton of Troutville; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Hazel Broughman of New Bern, N.C.; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy and Frank Benge of Vinton, and Bonnie Martin of Gretna; brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Hazel McFalls.
Funeral services honoring Frankie’s life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday March 22 at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville with Pastor Larry Kessler officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. COX, E. Glenn
E. Glenn Cox, 79, of Buchanan, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Clarence and Susie Lynch Cox, and first wife, Jeanne Cox. Glenn was a member and deacon of Buchanan Baptist Church, a former EMT and fireman, helped coach various youth sports, Lions Club member, and a funeral assistant at Botetourt Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Rose Marie Cox; children and spouses, Melissa and Bobby Baldwin; Mike and Donna Cox; and Charlie and Joan Hicks; grandchildren, Tommy, Brandon, and Chris Joynes; Morgan Abbott, Matthew Cox, Charles, John, and Ben Hicks; seven great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Lori (Tommy) East; step-grandchildren, Karlyn, Anna, and Eliza East; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Tom Powell.
Memorial services were held at 12 noon Friday, March 17 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Woody officiating with visitation before at 11 a.m. There was a time of fellowship following the service at the Buchanan Baptist Church. FISHER, Evelyn N.
Evelyn Ninita Fisher, 88, of Fincastle passed away, Friday, March 17, 2017.
She was the last of 12 children to the late Kimmie and Laura Redman and also preceded in death by her son, Steve Niday. She was a member of Botetourt Church of God of Prophecy.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, William Fisher; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Raymond Jones; daughter-in-law, Sue Niday; grandchildren, Casina (Tracy) Terry, Lisa (David) Brogan; great-grandchildren, Sheena (Tim) Groth, Ashley (Chris) Newman, Eric Terry, and Brittany Roatenberry; great-great-grandchildren, Aiden and Isaac Meade, Dalton Brogan, and Brady Groth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with tPastor Peggy Brown officiating. Interment was in Godwin Cemetery. SHELTON, Darrell R.
Darrell Ranson Shelton, 90, of Botetourt County, passed away March 15, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Hart Shelton; son, Richard; sisters, Helen Shelton and Doris Edmondson. Darrell retired from Norfolk Southern after 44 years. He served 42 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve and saw active duty in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of Villa Heights Baptist Church. Darrell was proud of his 456 donations to the American Red Cross, giving 22 gallons of whole blood and 276 platelet donations.
Darrell is survived by his sons, Mark and wife, Linda, Eric and wife, Julie; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 20, in Villa Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Jake Huffman officiating. Interment was in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or Villa Heights Baptist Church. The family received friends on Sunday, March 19, from 2-5 p.m. at Oakey’s North Chapel.
