Lawrence Glen “Papa” Naff, 93, of Cloverdale, died peacefully Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Friendship Health and Rehabilitation in Roanoke.
He was born June 17, 1923, a son of the late Joel and Drucilla Brunk Naff.
Glen is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mary Bushnell Naff; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Sam Foster; three grandchildren, Sam (Melinda) Foster, Stephanie (Steve) Spire, Stacie (Blaine) Simmers; seven great-grandchildren, Sammy (Elizabeth) Foster, Sara Foster, Seth and Eli Spire, Andrew, Tyler and Hannah Simmers; two great-great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Ezekiel Foster; a brother, Ralph Naff; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and J.H. Caricofe, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers Russell, Berlin and Curtis Naff; and sisters, Irene Orndoff and Lucille Mills.
Glen was a lifelong member of Cloverdale Church of the Brethren. He served on various committees, was the Sunday School superintendent, a deacon and a trustee.
He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a devoted Christian, an excellent handyman, and an avid gardener. He had a great love for children that became visible driving the church bus for Cloverdale Preschool and driving the tractor/wagon for the KinderCritter program at Camp Bethel.
A memorial service has been planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at Cloverdale Church of the Brethren followed by a reception. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Friendship Health and Rehabilitation and Medi Home Health & Hospice for the excellent care that they provided him. Arlene Minnick Vanhoy, 76, of Cloverdale, passed away May 23, 2017.
A memorial service will be held at Community Advent Christian Church, 4512 Old Mountain Road NE, Roanoke on June 2 at 3 p.m. Family will receive friends one hour prior. Arrangements are by Valley Funeral Home.
