AUSTIN, Delphine B.
Delphine Barger Austin, 100, of Eagle Rock, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Austin, Sr.; parents, Emmett and Clella Barger; infant daughter, Leona Austin; and nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Hiram, Jr. and Barbara Austin, Truman and JoAnn Austin, Raymond and Connie Austin, and Betty Jo (BJ) Barger and Albert Johnson, Jr.; 12 grandchildren, Leigh A. Downey, Jonathan Austin, Del Timis, Carolyn Clarkson, Pam A. Hall, Steve Austin, Michael Austin, Joseph Austin, David Austin, Alan Barger, Spencer Barger and Daniel Barger; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Ernest Noel.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 in Forest Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Marsh officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. BERNARD, Jimmy D.
Jimmy Dale Bernard, 83, died peacefully in the VA hospital on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. He was a long time resident of Troutville, and will be missed by many. Jim was a retired Military Sergeant in the United States Air Force. A veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, he served from 1952-1972. Jim also retired from ITT-Fiber Optics in Roanoke.
Jim was born on July 27, 1934 in Welch, W.Va. to the late Curtis G. Bernard and Mamie Sarver.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Betty Bernard; daughters, Kathryn Bloomquist, Marion Tapp, Revonda Thomas, Kathy Campbell, and Sandy (Howard) Altis; sons, Ray (Susie) Bernard, and Michael (Carol) Bernard; brother, William “Pete” (Nancy) Bernard; grandchildren, Michael Bernard, Louis Bernard, Nicole Seaman, Shae (Russell) Prusak, Sarah Arledge; nine great-grandchildren, and his cat companion, Toni.
Graveside services with Military Honors were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, Roanoke. Jim requested no flowers, but having a special place in his heart for animals, donations may be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA or a charity of your choice. BOONE, Mary A.
Mary Anne Boone, 88, of Daleville, passed from this life on Friday, May 4, 2018 of natural causes. She was a resident of The Glebe over the past nine years where her health had declined slowly over the years.
Mary Anne was born in Jackson Heights, N.Y., August 21, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Looney Ziegler. A long-time resident of Purcellville, Va. in Loudoun County and a 17-year resident of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Mary Anne lived in Botetourt County the past nine years.
Mary Anne was always an active church member when health allowed and served on various guilds at both St. Peters Episcopal and St. Luke’s Episcopal churches in Purcellville and Hilton Head, respectively. While raising three boys Mary Anne also enjoyed gardening, bridge, and golf in her leisure time.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband. Robert J. Boone, and daughter-in-law, Julia Isley Boone. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, David Boone of Snellville, Ga., Todd Boone of Leesburg, and Rich and Kathy Boone of Fincastle; as well as grandsons, Austin and Mitchell Boone.

COGGIN, Hazel D.
Hazel DeHart Coggin, 92, of Stoneville, N.C., formerly of Eagle Rock, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018. She was a retired bookkeeper and secretary who worked in the Pentagon during WWII and was very active in the garden club. She an accredited Judge Emeritus of the National Garden Clubs Inc. and a life member of the Garden Club of North Carolina, as well as a member of the Judges Council of Greensboro, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Joe L. Coggin, a Research Game Biologist who passed away October 26, 2017.
She is survived by daughters, Linda C. Krause and husband Kerry J. Krause, Patricia C. Gilbert and husband Michael S. Gilbert, Elizabeth C. Diggs and husband John W. Diggs; grandchildren, Joseph M. Krause and wife Allison Sterrett- Krause, Elizabeth K. Presutti and husband Dominic Presutti IV, Wm. Clee Gilbert, Cody J. Gilbert, Bradley C. Diggs, Stephanie D. Grace and husband Daniel J. Grace; Great-Grandchildren, Gregory J.S. Krause, David M.S. Krause, Stella M. Presutti and Dominic Presutti V.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church fellowship building with Pastor Richard Stevens officiating. Interment was in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 1-2 prior to the funeral service.

FAHRBACH, William A.
On Sunday evening, April 29, William Andrew Fahrbach, 82, of Troutville was “absent from the body” and present with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Bill was born September 26, 1935 in Quakertown, Pa. to William and Anna Fahrbach. He grew up in Crewe, Va. and attended the University of Richmond and upon graduating, he served in the US Army. In 1993, Bill retried from the Norfolk Southern Railway after 32 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Flo; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and David Perry and their children, Will and Emery Clair; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Leigh Fahrbach and Leigh’s children, Zachary, Olivia, and Macs; his sisters, Willa Powers of Tampa, Fla. and Shirley Baker of Richmond.
“Big Bill,” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was a devout Christian. He enjoyed sitting on the porch at Shadowland, fishing on the beach at Emerald Isle, N.C., and playing a good game of golf. His kindness brought people together, his humor made them laugh, and his wisdom was counsel to many. Bill’s absence will be profound.
A celebration of Bill’s life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5 at Troutville Baptist Church, 5520 Lee Highway, Troutville. His family received friends at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville on Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

SHELTON, Thomas H.
Thomas H. Shelton, 69, of Botetourt died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at his home following a long illness.
Tom was born in Salem June 21, 1948 and was the son of the late Frank H. and Evelyn Hamilton Shelton. He grew up in Lynchburg and lived in Botetourt for nearly 40 years. Tom was a chemical engineer with Dow Chemical and retired from Westvaco after 30 years of service in 2007. Tom was a 1966 graduate of E.C. Glass High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Virginia Tech in 1970. He and his son David collected sports memorabilia and attended many sports card shows from 1990-2000. They owned Sportsline for several years.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife Karen Horine Shelton, and daughter, Mary Shelton. He is survived by his son David Thomas Shelton; and best friends, Jim Booth and Mike Easterly.
A service honoring Tom’s life will be 7 p.m. Friday, May 11 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville. A private burial will be conducted at the convenience of the family at Daleville Cemetery. Tom’s family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, 5-7 p.m.
