Connie Camper Peters, fourth from left, from Fincastle (Breckinridge, Central Academy Middle School, Lord Botetourt ’81, James Madison University ’85, George Fox University- Master’s 2010), is a math teacher at Early College High School, but coaches golf at Sprague High School in Salem, Ore. She became the girls’ golf coach at Sprague in 2022.
Her husband, Randy, agreed to be the assistant coach for the boys’ and the girls’ teams. He works at Sprague High School.
In 2023, the Sprague girls’ golf team won first place at the Central Valley Conference District Tournament, which earned the team a spot in the 6A Girls OSAA State Tournament. The team met their goal of finishing in the top 10 at the two-day tournament at Quail Valley Golf Club in Banks, Ore. The team finished 10th and also achieved a GPA average of 3.66.
Another local connection is that Colby Sullivan, a senior at McNary High School, won the 6A Boys’ OSAA Championship at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, Ore. Chip Sullivan, formerly at Ashley Plantation, is a golf pro at Quail Valley and his wife, Kari, works at Sprague High School as a theater teacher.
