The James River boys traveled to Stuart on Monday to take on the newest member of the Three Rivers District and home-standing Patrick County took a 2-1 win.
“We came out strong and controlled the pace of the game,” said River coach Jared Whiting. “That is a game we should have won, but we gave it away in a few minutes of let down play. We out shot them and out worked them but we were off the mark with our shots.”
Josiah Clark scored River’s goal with an assist from Matthew Alderson.
“I was very pleased with how we controlled the ball and look forward to the rematch with them,” said Whiting. “It should be a close and exciting game.”
The Knights played at Riverheads last Friday and took a 5-1 win. Clark had a three-goal hat trick and added an assist. Aiden Bartulis and Tristan Capo also scored, Cayden Hoyt had two assists and Alderson had one.
“We played strong and dominated in the final third,” said Whiting. “Every game we get closer and closer to a complete package. The guys are working hard and steadily improving.”
River is now 2-6 overall and the Knights won’t play again until next Monday, April 22, when they host Radford in a big district match.
