Botetourt County Boy Scouts are hosting a county-wide Pinewood Derby Race March 23 at the VFW Hall on Route 220. Packs and Troops 137 and 333 are co-hosting the event. Race car registration starts at 1 p.m., and races will be held from 2-4 p.m.
The pinewood derby is a racing event for unpowered, unmanned miniature cars. With the help of adults, Scouts build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine wood, plastic wheels, and metal axles. Cars must be five ounces or less.
Find an old derby car, or build a new one. There will be several public heats; and that includes girls. All youth and adults are welcome to race. A hot dog lunch will be provided. Bring potluck sides and snacks.
