Fincastle Volunteer Fire Department – Company 4 was dispatched for a possible airplane crash on Sunday morning. As shared by the department in a social media post on Sunday, the station’s rescue engine responded to the 400 block of Shawnee Trail where it located a small passenger aircraft that had crash-landed in a field.
Crews located two patients still inside the aircraft and assisted with their removal. One patient was flown by Carilion Clinic Lifeguard 10 to Roanoke Memorial Hospital; the other patient was transported by ambulance.
After hazards were mitigated, the scene was turned over to Virginia State Police for investigation.
