Julian Lee “JL” Powell, 82, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones in his home at Blue Ridge.
JL is survived by his wife of 61 years, Diana; one daughter, Sherri Powell of Blue Ridge; two sons, Richard (Jill) Powell of Charlotte, N.C., and Bradley Powell of Daleville; three grandchildren, Morgan Wampler (Kyle) Bailey, Zachary Powell, Ethan Powell; one great-granddaughter, Landry Lee; sister, Judy Byars of Will Point, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Jones; and brother, Richard Powell.
JL was born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1941 and grew up in Terre Haute where he graduated from Garfield High School. He served in the USAF and was stationed for 13 months in Korea, and then worked in logistics that got him transferred to Roanoke. He and his wife bought Powell’s Market and enjoyed interacting and serving the people of Blue Ridge for over 10 years.
The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to the nurses of Amedisys Hospice Care for being so helpful and caring.
Per JL’s request since he never wanted to go to funerals and viewings, no services will be held.
