The Three Rivers District wrestling tournament will be held at Radford High School this Saturday to mark the beginning of the high school post-season. The Region 2C tournament, including James River, is scheduled for Liberty High a week later, on Saturday, February 15.
James River competed in the Eighth Annual “Big Red” tournament at Riverheads High last Saturday and finished sixth among 14 teams. Central of Wise won the tournament, followed by Massaponax.
River had two champions. Xaiden Wynn improved to 33-1 on the season with a first place at 113 and Nathan Stewart is 19-5 after winning the 144-pound class. Brayden Forbes made the final but lost to a wrestler from Wise for just his second loss of the season. Brayden is now 34-2.
Also placing were Ethan Serrano with a fourth at 106, Josiah Merchant with a fourth at 138 and Silas Whitson was fifth at 106.
