The James River soccer teams had a tough time in the past week with losses to Radford and Glenvar in Three Rivers District matches.
Monday the Knights were shut out both at home and on the road. The River boys fell to Radford, 8-0 on the road, and the girls dropped a 2-0 decision at home.
“Tough night for us,” said boys coach Jared Whiting. “We were off all across the board. This is one we just want to put behind us and move forward.”
The boys were scheduled to host Alleghany on Tuesday followed by a home game against Patrick County on Friday, a home game with Glenvar Monday and a home rematch with Radford a week from tonight, on May 15.
The girls lost at home to Radford Monday, 2-0, on “Senior Night.” River honored captains Lydia Dunbar and Annabelle Peay along with fellow seniors Alise Orent and Drew Whitson.
“As with the last meeting the play was energetic and went both ways from the start,” said River coach Bill Smith. “Radford had the better of it, but it was a good contest.”
Kylee Aaron had 14 saves for the Knights.
The girls are back in action Friday with a trip to Patrick County followed by a rematch with Glenvar next Monday in Roanoke County. The Knights lost to Glenvar at home last week, 2-0, while the boys played in Glenvar and dropped a 7-1 decision. Both Glenvar teams are still undefeated one week into May.
