The James River volleyball team was getting ready to open play in the Region 2C tournament as the paper went to press this week. The Knights were scheduled to play Dan River in the opening round Tuesday night.
The Knights are the third seed in the tournament behind top-seeded Gretna and second-seeded Appomattox. On Monday night, Appomattox beat Glenvar in three sets, and if River won on Tuesday they will travel to Appomattox on Thursday for a semifinal game. The championship is next Tuesday, November 12, at Roanoke College.
River played in the Three Rivers District tournament championship game against Alleghany last week and lost in four sets 25-20, 17-25, 25-21, and 25-18.
“We played well,” said coach Linsey Firebaugh. “We were able to get a lead and hung in with them every set, but ultimately they had too many weapons hitting to stop them from going on a run and taking the set.”
The Knights come into the region at 18-8.
