The Lord Botetourt and James River golf teams will be competing in region tournaments this week, hoping possible new water hazards don’t impact the scores.
Lord Botetourt was competing in the Region 3D tournament on Tuesday at the Draper Valley course in Pulaski County. The top two teams in that tournament move on to states as well as the top three individuals not on those two teams. The Class 3 state tournament will be at Heritage Oaks in Harrisonburg on October 15.
Botetourt won the nine-hole Blue Ridge District tournament at Copper Cove in Hardy last week with a score of 152. William Byrd was second at 160 followed by Northside at 168, Franklin County at 171 and Staunton River at 187.
Aidan Mitchell of Lord Botetourt was medalist with a 36 and the Cavaliers had the top three scores with Jeremy Simmons carding 37 and Alisa Davidova finishing at 38. Also scoring for LB was Garrett Honts at 41.
The All-Blue Ridge team was announced last week and Davidova was named Player of the Year. Mitchell and Simmons joined her on the first team and Hayden Firestone and Honts were named to the second team.
The Region 2C sub-region tournament, with James River, was scheduled for Monday of this week at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club but was moved to Thursday due to inclement weather. A shotgun start will get things underway at 1 p.m.
The top three teams at the BG&SC will advance to the Region 2C tournament, along with the top six individuals that are not on one of the top three teams. The region tournament will be at Great Oaks on Monday, October 7.
