Bernice Montgomery Young Rider, 96, of 411 Pine Street, Clifton Forge, passed on to her Heavenly home on Friday, October 30, 2020 at The Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clifton Forge.
Bernice was born May 28, 1924 to the late Walter Cary Montgomery and Carolina Teaford Montgomery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin A. (William/Bill) Young; her second husband, John L. Rider; five sisters, Roxie Noel, Ollie Johnson, Louise Mabry, Carrie Johnson and Casoline Boyd; and two brothers, Henry Montgomery and Hollis Montgomery.
Bernice spent most of her working career serving as a Front End Manager for the Kroger Co. in Clifton Forge where she later retired. Bernice was a past member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church and Central United Methodist. She loved flowers, music, shopping and enjoyed playing the piano.
She is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 2 p.m. in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor with the Rev. Edith Snedegar officiating.
Due to COVID, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Immediate family will gather on Monday afternoon from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
There will be no public visitation. However, friends may call anytime at Nicely Funeral Home.
