The James River baseball team saw its season come to an end Monday with a 7-0 loss to Dan River High in Ringgold.
Freshman Jake Braun got the start on the mound and went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Kevin Austin, Kevin Theimer and Dyllan McAllister also saw time on the mound but River finished with just five hits and no runs.
The win followed a 5-4 win at Giles in the regional opener last week. River came in as the 11th seed and Giles was sixth.
“This game was really big for us,” said coach Harry Falls. “It was the first post season win for us in a couple years and, after the season we had, the team showed the last part of the season they still had some fight in them when many didn’t give them a chance.”
Coulter Hodges started and pitched a complete game for River, fanning six and walking none.
River had 13 hits, including three by Chase Oberg. Ethan Loving, Coulter, Gabe Sebastino, and Zac Cahoon all had two hits.
“Our team showed great improvement at the end of the season, winning three of the last five games,” said Falls.
