The James River Boys finished second and the girls were seventh at the Class 1 and 2 Region C swim championships at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Thursday, Feb. 4.

Top four individuals and relays advance to the state meet, which has been moved from this Thursday to February 18 due to the anticipated snow storm. That meet will also be held at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

The region meet started with the boys medley relay team of Nathan Etzler, Isaac Bell, Walker Wilson, and Dillon Minnix finishing second. The same group of swimmers would finish second in the 200 Free Relay later in the meet.

Ellie Holter, Drew Whitson, and Mackenzie Alford all had best times of the season or PRs in the 200 Free. Holter would go on to finish eighth in the 100 Backstroke with Drew Whitson finishing 12th in the 100 Breaststroke and Mackenzie Alford finishing 9th in the 100 Backstroke.

Norah Jones took 9th in the 500 Free and 15th in the 100 Breaststroke. Sydney Wilson finished fourth in the 200 IM and third in the 100 Butterfly to advance to the State Meet.  Kaylee Cox would finish 13th overall in both the 50 and 100 Free.

The 50-yard Free had Dillon Minnix finishing second overall and Walker Wilson finishing fourth overall. Minnix would also finish 4th in the 100 Free later in the meet with PRs for both events. Wilson would later swim the 100 Butterfly and finish second in the event with a PR. Chase Minnix dropped two seconds in the 50 Free to finish 7th overall.  Senior Isaac Bell dropped four seconds in his 100 Breaststroke to finish 4th overall and advance to the State Meet.

One of the most impressive swims of the day was demonstrated by first year senior swimmer Riley Potter.  Riley swam the 50 Free and dropped 2 seconds and would continue on to drop 12 seconds in her 100 Backstroke.

Chase Minnix dropped 19 seconds in his 100 Breaststroke to finish 9th overall. One of the other day’s impressive swims came from junior Nathan Etzler, who finished as Region Champ in the 100 Backstroke.  Nathan would also finish second in the 100 Free.  In both events Nathan would swim PRs.

One of the highlights of the day for the Lady Knights was the 400 Free Relay team of Cox, Holter, Jones and Wilson.  The girls relay dropped 12 seconds finishing third overall to advance to the State Meet.
