It was “Rec Night” in Springwood last Friday and the James River boys treated the youngsters to a win on the basketball floor. River defeated visiting Faith Christian, 32-24.
The Knights led the whole way, jumping to a 19-8 lead at the half. Maddox Pichay had 10 points and five rebounds for River while Mark Voight had eight points and six boards.
“Friday was a good trial run of the rock fight needed in district play,” said River coach Ethan Humphries. “The district games have to get real grimy for us to even have a chance. We know full well what we have to do and are excited about the challenges coming up.”
With the win the Knights evened their record at 6-6. They were scheduled to open Three Rivers District play Tuesday at home against Floyd but that game was postponed due to inclement weather. The Knights will try again Thursday at Alleghany, followed by a home game against Carroll County on Monday, January 13.
The Knights will have “Alumni Day” on Saturday, January 18, when they host Craig County at 2 p.m. All boys’ basketball alumni will get in free.
