Depending on the weather, the James River boys are scheduled to play a Three Rivers District basketball game at Glenvar tonight.
The post-season is fast closing in but the Three Rivers does not have a district tournament so there is still ample time to make up games. River is hoping to host Carroll County Thursday night, then travel to Alleghany next Wednesday to close out the regular season.
The Knights are 7-15 overall and still looking for a district win after nine tries after losing at Patrick County Monday, 67-55. River held a 25-21 lead at the half but couldn’t hold on. Kody Park had 14 points and Ryder Ward and Ben Lawson had a dozen each.
“We are still searching to put a complete game together,” said coach Ethan Humphries. “We’re showing some bright stretches, but in our district 32 minutes of great play is the requirement if we want to have a chance.”
Last Thursday at home the boys dropped a 64-28 game to Radford. Jack Beheler had 11 points and eight rebounds.
“The second and third quarters we played them evenly and the fourth quarter deficit made us have to take a big risk which went the other way on us,” said Humphries. “I know the final score was a trouncing, but if we could take away the nine first quarter second chance points for Radford it would’ve been a two possession game going into the fourth.”
That game was supposed to be “Senior Night” but River’s lone senior, Kody Park, was sick and missed the game. Senior Night is now scheduled for Thursday’s home game with Carroll.
