The James River boys split two Three Rivers District soccer games last week, defeating Radford but falling to Giles.
The Knights took a 4-2 win over Radford in Springwood. Jacob Wagner had two goals and an assist while Jacob Hill and Tristan Flood had a goal and an assist each.
“Radford has a big and physical team but we more than matched their physical play,” said River coach Jared Whiting. “We kept our composure and they didn’t provide us with opportunities to penetrate into the final third. Our midfielders owned the field most of the night and defense was strong. These guys left nothing on the field all night. I know they will be sore from this game but I have to hand it to them, they worked for it, and deserved the win.”
On Friday in Pearisburg a strong Giles team defeated River, 3-0.
“Giles has an outstanding team for sure,” said Whiting. “They are big, fast and talented. We definitely have to bring our A game to beat them and we simply didn’t.”
The Knights were scheduled to play at home against Alleghany on Tuesday of this week before trips to Radford on Thursday and Giles on Friday.
