The James River boys will have their work cut out for them tonight when they host the two-time defending state champion Glenvar soccer team in Springwood. The Highlanders are 14-0 and have allowed just one goal all season.
River hasn’t played for a week, but the last time the Knights were on the pitch they played well. River beat Patrick County, 4-3, in Stuart last Wednesday.
“We played great,” said River coach Jared Whiting. “We were consistent with our ball movement, very aggressive and showed great work off the ball. Our offense was giving them different looks all night causing confusion with their defense.”
Brayden Forbes had two goals and an assist for the Knights while Tristan Capo and Wyatt Dewhirst had one goal each. Sam Wilson and Ryan Daniels had assists.
“It was an exciting game,” said Whiting. “The final score was great but when things got ‘chippy’ in the second half our guys stood tall and played with poise and great sportsmanship. Proud of how they handled the situation.”
With the win the Knights improved to 3-6 in the district. After tonight’s home game with Glenvar, they’ll be at Radford Thursday and home against Radford next Tuesday, May 27.
