James River’s Kaia Binns finished third in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes to lead the River girls to an 18th place finish in the Class 2 state track meet last weekend. James Madison University hosted the Class 1 and 2 meets.
Binns ran a time of 12.84 in the 100 and 26.27 in the 200 to place third in both events. Teammate Denver Rinehart was 11th in the 200 and 16th in the 100, and Denver scored in the 400 with a sixth place finish in 1:03.10. Also scoring for the Knights was Samaya Osborne with a sixth in the shot put at 33’ 1.25”.
For the boys, Jack Beheler and Jayden Alston were sixth and seventh in the discus. Beheler had a toss of 139’9” and Alston’s distance was 134’. Jayden was 12th in the shot put.
Gavin Binns was ninth in the 100 and 16th in the 200. Braden Jones was 12th in the 1,600 and 19th in the 800.
The Clarke County girls and Floyd County boys won team championships in Harrisonburg. The River girls scored 18 points for 18th place and the boys tied for 30th.
