The James River girls will play two home soccer games this week before taking off for spring break. The Knights were scheduled to host Northside on Tuesday and Nelson County on Friday.
River comes into the week with a 1-0-1 record after tying Riverheads, 1-1, in a game in Staunton last Thursday.
“The game was high energy from the start and a bit chaotic due to a very bumpy field,” said River coach Bill Smith. “Both teams struggled to maintain possession, leading to a lot of back-and-forth play.”
After a scoreless first half the Knights broke on top when Konner Myers converted a penalty kick midway through the second stanza. Five minutes later Riverheads tied it up and that was the remainder of the scoring for the rest of regulation and overtime. Kylee Aaron had eight saves in the goal for River.
“No one likes a tie, but this was a hard-fought match for an up-and-coming James River squad,” said Smith.
After Friday’s home game the Knights will be off until April 2 at Alleghany.
