The James River girls opened the basketball season with two losses last week while Lord Botetourt has yet to play a game.
The Cavaliers had a couple girls contact COVID-19 and are waiting for the okay to begin their season. The first possible game will be at home on January 19 but that was yet to be finalized at press time.
James River had two games to open the season last week and the Knights dropped both to Three Rivers District foes, 43-3 at Radford on Wednesday and 49-13 at Giles on Thursday.
“We have a total of 10 girls on the team and one of the girls is out for probably rest of the year,” said River coach ED Schechterly, who does not have a jayvee team this season. “The girls that we have are hard workers and will play until the end of the game. What really has surprised the coaching staff was that over the holidays we gave the girls the chance to pick what time they wanted to practice and they said 7 a.m. until 9 a.m., and they were there without any problems.”
River’s has two games scheduled for this weekend, both at home. The girls will host Radford on Friday at 6 p.m. and Fort Chiswell on Saturday at 2 p.m.
