Glenvar edged James River by one stroke when the Highlanders played host to the Three Rivers District golf tour last week. The 18-hole round was played at the Hanging Rock Golf Club in Roanoke County, a hilly par 72 course.
Floyd won the day with a 329, followed by Radford at 333. Giles took third at 352 and Glenvar squeezed by River, 367 to 368, to take fourth. Glenvar had the medalist as freshman Avery Alexander shot a two-over 74.
Ryan Steger led River with a solid 78, followed by Silas Miller at 91 and Joey Schroeder at 95. Rounding out the River scoring was Lacey Kessler at 104.
“Ryan has been such a solid player the entire season,” said coach Donna Cox. “I look for him to be successful in the regional tournament later this month.”
The golfers were scheduled to play at Giles on Tuesday of this week, but results were too late for publication.
