Floyd finished with a score of 318 to beat second place Radford, who had 342. Giles was next at 351 with River close behind at 353. Glenvar shot 408, Carroll had 439 and Alleghany did not have a full team.
Trevor Price of Radford was the medalist with a blazing 73, followed by Tanyan Sutphin of Floyd at 79. River’s Ryan Steger was third with an 80, tying Logan Douthat of Giles. Also scoring for James River were Silas Miller at 83, Joey Schroeder with 92 and Jake Braun with a 97.
“I was impressed with our scores, we’re getting better every match,” said River coach Donna Cox. “We still need to get at least three of our golfers in the 80s and that is more than doable. We have so much talent, I think their first year nerves are getting the best of them.”
The Knights are scheduled to return to action on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hanging Rock in Roanoke County, as Glenvar is the host team. A Monday round at Floyd was postponed due to inclement weather.
