The James River golfers finished third at the Great Oaks course Monday in the Region 2C sub-region tournament. That’s good enough to qualify the Knights for the Region 2C tournament at the Falling River Country Club in Appomattox next Monday.
Floyd County won the sub-region with a score of 288, their best score of the season after dominating Three Rivers District play. Radford was second at 319 and the Knights took the third spot in the region with a 339. Patrick County was fourth at 342 and had three golfers qualify for the region as individuals. Likewise, Glenvar had three individuals advance with a team score of 351 and Martinsville was sixth at 507.
Floyd’s Peyton Mason was medalist with a four-under-par 68 followed by Hunter Crist of Radford who was one stroke back. River’s best score was a one-under 71 by Mason Gilliland, followed by Landon Bolling at 73. Also scoring for the Knights were Braden Persinger with an 89 and Trenton Taylor at 106.
Lord Botetourt will play in the Region 3D tournament at the Draper Valley course next Monday. All 13 Region teams are entered and the top two and three individuals not on those teams will advance to the Class 3 state tournament.
