The James River girls picked up their first win of the volleyball season and evened their record at 1-1 when they beat Bassett in three sets last Thursday. The Knights took a 25-19, 25-23 and 28-26 win over the Class 3 Bengals.
Emma Lester, a senior, led River with a dozen kills and also had 14 digs. Lexi McCullough had nine kills and seven digs while Emma Francis contributed six kills and had a pair of solo blocks.
Sophomore Konner Myers led the servers with seven aces, and she also had 14 assists. Senior libero Mary Hoye had 26 digs and four aces for River.
The Knights were scheduled to be back in action Tuesday with a home match against Stuarts Draft. Next week’s they’re at Lord Botetourt on Wednesday, September 7.
