The James River baseball team defeated two Three Rivers District opponents last week with some great pitching. River gave up just two runs for the week.
The Knights opened the week with a 7-2 victory at Floyd County. Heath Andrews drove in two runs with a fifth inning double to break a 2-2 tie and the Knights added on for the win.
Zeal Hammons pitched for River and got the win. The crafty lefthander allowed just three hits while pitching all seven innings.
River had 11 hits in the game, led by John Austin who went three-for-three with four runs batted in. Dalton Hall, Ben Bailey and Andrews had two hits each while Hall, Bailey and Joey Schroder each scored twice.
On Friday at home, it was a “Good Friday” for the Knights as they shut out Glenvar, 7-0. Andrews pitched the first six innings, fanning seven and allowing the visitors just three hits and two walks. Jonas Wilkes pitched a hitless seventh to complete the shutout.
On offense, Bailey continued his hot hitting with a two-for-three game and two runs batted in. Hall, Andrews, Austin and Wilkes also drove in runs for the Knights.
River was scheduled to host Carroll County on Tuesday in the only game scheduled for this week. Next Tuesday, April 26, the Knights are at Alleghany.
