River will compete in the Class 2 track meet at JMU

The Class 1 and 2 track meets will be held at James Madison University on Friday and Saturday this week and the James River team will be well represented

River competed in the Region 2C meet at Glenvar High School last Thursday as Floyd County swept the team titles. The Buffalo boys had 159.5 to 85 for second place Glenvar while the Buffalo Gals had 147 to 113 for host Glenvar, who also finished second in the girls meet. The James River girls were fourth with 87.5 points and the boys were eighth.

Navaeh VanBuren had a big day for the girls, winning the triple jump with a leap of 36’1”. Navaeh was also second in the discus, fourth in the long jump and a member of the third place 4×100 relay team with Kelsey Firebaugh, Kaia Binns and Drew Whitson.

Individually, Binns was second in the 100 and 200 while Firebaugh was third in both races and fifth in the long jump. Whitson was third in the 1,600 and fourth in the 800.

Emma Bobbitt won the shot put with a heave of 33’.5” and she was third in the discus.

In the boys meet, Gavin Binns won the 200 with a time of 22.91 and took seventh in the 100. Gavin was also a member of the sixth place 4×100 relay team with Xander Carlough, Walker Wilson and Ryder Ward. The 4×800 team of Aiden Bartulis, Braden Jones, Silas Miller and Mark Voight was fifth.

Bartulis also took a sixth in the 800 and Jones was seventh in the 1,600. Jayden Alston was second in the discus and fourth in the shot put.

The top four in each event advanced to this week’s state meet.
