The James River baseball team will be looking for its first win tonight when the Knights host Three Rivers District rival Glenvar in baseball at 5 p.m. in Springwood. River is 0-4 after dropping two games last week to Floyd County and Staunton River.
Last Wednesday in Floyd the Knights dropped a 6-0 decision to the host Buffaloes. Colin Cook, Gabe Sebastino, Jake Braun, Logan Campbell, and Kahlique White each collected one hit as the Knights were held to just five hits for the game and weren’t able to push across a run. Braun took the loss on the mound, allowing two hits and three runs over three innings while striking out six and walking none. Austin Thomas pitched the last three innings, allowing three runs and fanning three.
A day later, in Springwood, visiting Staunton River pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-2 win over the Knights. River had seven hits in this one, led by White with two. Austin Thomas, Sebastino, Braun, Cook and Dakota Thomas had one hit apiece while Sebastino and Cook drove in runs.
Zeal Hammons made his first varsity start on the mound for River and took the loss. He went five innings, allowing six hits while striking out one.
After today’s home game with Glenvar the Knights will head to Alleghany on Friday.
