The James River golfers will be the host team for a match at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club Monday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Last week the Three Rivers District tour passed through Laurel Fork as Patrick County hosted a match at the Olde Mill Golf Course. As has been the case in every district match this season Floyd County had the low score with a 317. Glenvar was second, 20 strokes back at 337, followed by Radford at 350, Alleghany at 363, Carroll County at 373, Patrick County at 375 and James River shot 377.
“While this course is probably the most picturesque of all of the clubs we play, it is also among the most challenging,” said River coach Donna Cox.
Floyd’s Isaiah Cantrell was the medalist with a 75 while River’s best scores were 80 each by Mason Gilliland and Landon Bolling.
“This is an extraordinary score for such a difficult course,” said Cox. “Mason and Landon have been strong leaders on the team this year, not only in scoring but also in team building, morale boosting and genuine knowledge of the game.”
Both Mason and Landon were awarded Three Rivers District first team honors at the conclusion of the match.
Also, eighth grader Braden Persinger shot a 40 in a JV match at Gypsy Hill in Staunton last Tuesday. He was the low man on the day and took medalist honors.
