James River High School will be the site of the Knights Invitational Team Duals wrestling event this Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m. and teams competing include Stuarts Draft, Parry McCluer, Richlands, Patrick County, Floyd County and the host Knights.
The Knights opened the season last weekend at the Blues’ Invitational Tournament at Parry McCluer High School and finished second to Glenvar in the team standings. The Knights were just two points out of first place and had more champions than any school competing, including one more than Glenvar. There were a dozen schools in the tournament.
Taking first places for River were Xaiden Wynn at 106, Craig Bowyer at 120, Chase Cuddy at 126, Hunter Forbes at 160 and Carder Miller at 195. Cuddy was named the Outstanding Wrestler among the lower weights and Carder was the Outstanding Wrestler in the upper weights. Wesley Ferguson and Dakota Gilliam both took fifths at 145 and 285, respectively.
“Friday and Saturday were great performances by the team,” said coach Bobby Stewart. “The results are very good for only having seven wrestlers out of 14 enter the tournament.”
