The James River wrestlers will head to Buffalo Gap on Saturday for a high school match. The Knights were at Wilson Memorial last Saturday.
River lost for the first time against host Wilson Memorial, 54-24, while forfeiting four weight classes. The Knights then fell to Warren County, 45-33, before bouncing back to edge a traditionally strong Strasburg team, 34-33.
Junior Chase Cuddy bumped up to the 126-pound class and dominated a Strasburg wrestler who was a state placer at that weight last year. Senior Chase Powell bumped up to 138 and secured a thrilling win with a reversal during the last seconds of the match.
Last Wednesday, Jan. 23, the Knights traveled to Central Woodstock and took a 38-28 win over host Falcons and a 32-30 win over William Monroe. River was scheduled to host Carroll County and Stuarts Draft for a Tuesday tri-meet, but results were too late for publication.
