The James River boys will play host to Radford Thursday in a big Three Rivers District basketball game. River is looking to turn things around after dropping two district games last week.
The Knights hosted Alleghany last Wednesday and dropped a 43-26 decision. Kody Park led the team with nine points and Jack Beheler had six.
On Friday in Hillsville, River ran into another strong team and dropped a 60-40 game to the host Cavaliers. Ryder Ward led River with 13 points and Park had a dozen.
“These last two games we faced some really good teams and statistically the games were over by halftime,” said River coach Ethan Humphries. “Their combined records are 29-6 so we knew the task was going to be tall. However, we’re most proud of our guys for hanging in there. Both games we won the second half outright. We aren’t blind to the dynamics that come with that, but for our guys to keep fighting regardless of the scoreboard speaks a lot to their character.”
With the two losses River fell to 6-12 overall. After Thursday’s home game with Radford, the Knights will be at Patrick County next Monday and at Glenvar a week from today for Three Rivers District games.
