Dennis Wayne “Pops” Rogers Jr., 54, of Eagle Rock, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 1, 2019.
Pops was born in Covington, but was raised in Cornstalk, W.Va., by his great-grandmother, Esther Deitz. He loved NASCAR, especially No. 43 Richard Petty, hunting, University of West Virginia sports, the Dallas Cowboys, John Wayne and Johnny Cash. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Wayne Rogers Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Dawn Williford Rogers; mother, Joyce Ann Baldwin Rogers; son, Richard Wayne “Ricky” Rogers; daughters, Tasha Dawn Scheffey and Tom Griffin, Elizabeth Ann Rogers, Mary Esther Rogers and Joey Kearns Jr.; granddaughter, Serenity Grace Kearns; grandson furbabies, Toby and Jackson; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many family like friends. Wayne thought of and treated everyone he knew as family.
There was a Celebration of Life for Pops at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 8 in the Eagle Rock Community Center, 14604 Church Street, Eagle Rock. Donations may be sent to P.O. Box 64, Eagle Rock, 24085.
