Roy Earnest Alexander, 76, of Buchanan, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
Born in Eagle Rock on May 22, 1945, Roy was the son of the late Wilburn Marrion and Hettie Elsie Woodson Alexander. Roy was preceded in death by his sisters, Christine Alexander and Martha Alexander Park, and brother, Marrion Alexander Jr.
Roy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Petty Alexander; his son, Mark Christopher Alexander and wife Kim; and his son, Eric Lynn Alexander and girlfriend Laura Allmon. He is also survived by his much adored grandsons, Cooper Alexander and Mitchell Alexander and Mitchell’s mother, Janice Alexander. Roy’s brother , Glenn Alexander also survives him.
Roy’s extended family includes sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen Wootton, Billy and Sandra Petty, Anita and Don Thompson, Becky and Scott Hannah, Janie and Will Harris, and scores of nieces and nephews who dearly loved him. He is also survived by special friends, Daisy, Delaney and Danielle Allman and Michelle Austin. Comfort and loving attention has been provided to Roy by his caregivers Jenny Wilson, Tammy Painter and his ever-present canine companion, Max.
Roy was an excellent machinist and electrician and worked at the same plant location for over 47 years. Although ownership and the name of the factory changed numerous times during the tenure of his employment, a few things remained constant – Roy’s dedication and work ethic. Those same characteristics of faithfulness and commitment were evident in Roy’s relationships with family and friends. A longtime member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church, Roy filled the roles of deacon, trustee and Sunday School superintendent over the years. Many people in the community benefited from Roy’s generosity and willingness to provide assistance wherever and whenever he could; most never knew the identity of their benefactor. Roy quietly did kind things for others and lived a life of simplicity and service.
The family extends sincere appreciation for all prayers and concern shown during this difficult time and requests that those wishing to honor Roy’s memory consider making a donation to Cedar Bluff Baptist Church, P.O. Box 915 Buchanan, 24066 or to Shiloh United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Eagle Rock, 24085. There was no visitation planned; however, a private Celebration of Life at the Botetourt Funeral Home, Buchanan, was conducted by Roy’s best friend and brother-in-law, Scott Hannah. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfuneralhome.com or 540-254-3000.
